"My friend told me he heard that you can't have a garden in New Zealand. That it is illegal to have it. I'm not sure if this is true. I googled about it, but got no founds. Could you guys please tell me? And please no hate I know this question might be insulting to some of you. " Reddit poster WhyNotSmeagol asks an innocent question and rips the scab of the still-raw wound of Hobbit-Land's viciously Orwellian home cultivation regime.

This post was deleted for the following reason: Raw reddit threads make for kind of tricky post material a lot of the time and this is a case where it's not really clear which parts are supposed to be the interesting/relevant bit of the post. -- cortex

They usually let you off for possession of potatoes. I was pulled over and the police found two new potatoes rolling around in the back seat. It was my brothers car but I took the blame. They let me off with a verbal warning. Lucky they didn't check my pockets. I had a 50g bag of ready salted in there. But the cops really go after the dealers and growers.

Well, in New Zealand's defense, I hear their toothbrush fence is up to 50 toothbrushes now.
