Do you have a few CPU cycles to spare? Distributed computing is all the rage these days we're searching for extraterrestrials, working on cures for cancer and anthrax. Now you can spend some of those extra CPU cylces on artificial intelligence. What they are doing is basically "Creating Chess Playing Artificial Neural Networks with Distributed Evolutionary Algorithms" this is different from the brute force approaches taken by most chess playing programs, and has more to do with how humans approach the game. "The approach taken here can perhaps be described best as 'playing chess by pattern recognition'. Interesting stuff, perhaps you were annoyed when you were switched from cancer to anthrax and you can make an intelligent choice. :)
