Hooligans Shut Down Brooklyn Bridge (On Your Dime)

Remember when angry, incoherent protesters shut down the Brooklyn Bridge? Remember how they used official police radio to organize, shouted racist slurs and kicked reporters? I'm talking of course, about the NYPD. All because civilians might have a chance to review charges of police misconduct.
This post was deleted for the following reason: This is not, in fact, framing that is going to work on this, even if we need another post on the general topic. Sorry. -- restless_nomad

The idea that police should be accountable to democratic, civilian control should not be controversial in a free society.

Charles Pierce makes this exact point, noting that the concept is enshrined in the Declaration of Independence for crying out loud.

What I would love for a mayor of NYC to declare "I won't attend police funerals until the police start behaving properly." And then also refuse to allow the city to shut down streets for police funeral processions.
Until the Mayor starts attending the funerals of the people the cops kill, I don't think it's proper that he attends the funerals of the police. The people should demand that he doesn't. It's not a priviledge for the mayor to attend such funerals, its an honor bestowed on the police.
Also, no time off for cops to attend such funerals, unless they worked directly with the cop. I mean, I don't get a day off every time a software engineer has a funeral.
