I love that this joke got resurrected this week out of nowhere, and that there are still new people that haven't heard the joke before.

I had no idea that had happened, because I have this one friend who never ever stopped trying to tell that joke to me and everyone he meets. I've known the guy for 15 years and I can't even count the number of times he's worked updog into a conversation or email or tweet or video game chat window or whatever.

So for me, any general resurgence of this joke is a mere trickle compared to deluge of updog spraying forth from everyday interactions with Dan.

They are obviously in on the joke, though. The copy is full of double entendres. It's fabulous!

Some of our skilled craftsman have been handling wood for over 25 years.

Many of our customers prefer to take on two or even three types of wood for one project.

The "Samples" page notes that "Our sample pens have been overwhelmingly popular."

Are you telling me that site is actually a real pen merchant?

Why on Earth would they ever change it? Pen Island is fucking magnificent. The subtle and intermittent innuendos, the tweaked spacing between "pen" and "is" in the company motto, the complete lack of any punchline or giveaway—it's a breathtaking masterpiece of deadpan humor, a jewel of the genre. It's perfect. It should be inscribed on gold plates and fired into outer space as an example of one of Earth's finest cultural creations. Thank you, thank you, oneswellfoop, for bringing it to my attention. I'm in love.

Unlike expertsexchange.com, which they not only changed but ultimately abandoned without even a redirect.

Oh man, I remember when you couldn't search and *not* get expertsexchange in the results. SEO companies must talk about that site like it was the holy grail of ranking manipulation.

My first encounter with updog was when I was twenty, when one of my friends told me, "Hey, the guys over there have been saying some updog stuff about you." I figured "updog" was some trendy slang and I didn't want to admit I was too uncool to know its definition, so I just said "Oh, okay," and hoped he'd change the subject. My friend tried fishing a little more, and I kept playing along, until he finally came out with "So, do you know what 'updog' is?" Surprised and a little embarrassed that my ignorance was so obvious, I had to admit that I didn't. He pressed on: "Well, aren't you going to ask?" I replied, "Okay, fine. What does 'updog' mean?"

I can't link while at work, but there was a great Twitter joke recently that said "Alex Trebek is about to own everybody" and then featured, in the classic Jeopardy! white-text-on-blue, the clue "The opposite of down, and the opposite of cat."

"Have you seen the snooithyoo?"
"What snooithyoo?"
"Not much, you?"

"Have you met Neezed?"
"Who's Neezed?"
"Not me."

And I'm still working on the TED talk about the Apple iFar... (iFar TED)

Then, there's the classic
"Knock knock"
"Who's there?"
"Boo."
"Boo who?"
"Well, you don't have to cry about it."
