Add to the list of reasons why I'm on Team Kessler.

Urban Meyer left Florida a smoking, radioactive crater and I can't bring myself to read a word about how good he is at recruiting somewhere else.

HARBAUGH

Existential Dread, Harbaugh's press conference when he took the Michigan job was so weird. He did not sound like a man who was happy to have the job.

As an LSU alum, I have nothing nice to say about Nick Saban, so I won't say anything at all.

This is a great piece and helps shed light on why these two are elite coaches - interesting hearing some of this from a sales standpoint, which is what I do.

To contrast, check out Tebow talking about his recruitment from Spurrier.

I finally RTFA and I guess they don't talk bout it for lack of hard proof, but I find the lack of discussion of under-the-table money in big-time recruiting to be, well, unintentionally hilarious. (That and the repeated assertions that Ohio State has SEC speed. I think we all remember how that's worked out recently.)

wintermind, I haven't had the change to watch so I can't comment...reading mgoblog's reporting on the matter, it seems like Harbaugh-to-Michigan has been fait accompli for nearly a week prior to the end of the 49ers season. It'll be interesting to hear more of this as the story comes out. I think Harbaugh is going to do great things for Michigan, The Game, and the Big Ten in general.

You've gotta think grantland / deadspin has had some sort of big recruitment money piece in the works for a while now. Don't want to spill any little beans before the big (bean reservoir) dam breaks.

In other news, can someone point me towards the nearest bean reservoir?

Actually, there's a long-form piece out there on recruitment black money networks (can't remember where, though.) One of the interesting bits was how one of the big tools wasn't money, but aid - help the recruit's family out of a problem, and boom, you got your star.

You're probably thinking of the SB Nation piece. I know it was linked on Metafilter.

I sat in on a conversation recently between a former NFL head coach and reporter from a sports magazine and the things I heard concerning this were mind blowing BUT there was no hard evidence to back it up. It's one of those things that everyone knows is happening but no one wants to actually talk about. When the dam breaks it could very well take the entire SEC with it.

I heard one of the 49ers congratulared Harbaugh on his new job after the last game and Harbaugh replied, "don't congratulate me, I didn't want to leave."
