Woohoo! Flan for everybody!

Can someone just cut to the chase and tell me which one has the chainsaw? I'm in kind of a hurry.

Um. A Creme Brulee (or whatever that was) is not a flan. I demand accuracy in my dessert based random/bizarre videos.

And so it came to pass that the flan was indeed cut.

All around, a great effort. But some of these attempts don't quite cut the custard.

Spoiler alert, I guess? But #64 is a scare video, in case you don't like those kind of things.

Ugh, thanks. I was at #61 & you ruined everything.

Cut The Flan

There seems to be a flan in their paw -- I mean, a flaw in their plan.

Are these Kozy Shack flans? They're ok, I guess, but kind of bland and insipid. For real flan flavor you should make a proper leche flan. Alas, I haven't had one in decades because everyone in my family is afraid of caramelizing sugar. (Too many tiny fires, exploding cans of condensed milk, and powerful burned flavors.)

I wish I could rent a Pinoy grandmother to come to my house and hook us up.

I'm not getting that ASMR tingle. Can we add some crackle or something?

British English / American English thing. Americans usually mean a Spanish style flan, which is indeed a custard like that.

*watches #1* Noooo, don't put the knife on the placemat after cutting the flan. You'll get syrup on it.

*watches #3* … Oh.

I've never cut a flan ... But people who know me say I sure can cut the cheese.

(Can't believe it took this long.)

So what we've learned here is: use your plate to cut the flan. That plate-cut flan was mighty good looking.

So what is a British flan? Eddie Izzard has a line about some empire that "slowly collapsed like a flan in a cupboard", and every time I hear it, I think "why would you put custard in the cupboard, and how the hell could it collapse?".

The time in my life I wished I had a camera most, I was walking down Mission listening to music, and as 'Hello Mabel' came on, a man with a glassed-in cart full of wee individual flans was hurrying the other direction (end of the day, I think, either he was a caterer or there were a lot of unsold flans) and all the flans wiggled in unison with his steps and the guitar syncopation.

This is...not that, but we're getting close.

The best flan comes from little tienda bodegas. Or at least that's how it works out here in Durham.

Flan (at least to me) is one of those cakes that constantly defeats me. I can never quite get the texture/recipe right, even though it's supposed to be both easy and traditional.
Flan Example 1
Flan Example 2
Both of those have a custard base under the fruit, but the ones that were common in my family had a glaze over the fruit and didn't have the custard.
