Tiffany's all grown up and she wants to show you!

That lead-in sounds just like the average porn-spam I receive so often, and I've seen better writing from porn spammers. Honestly. Surely we can do a bit better than this?

Debbie Gibson's all grown up now too! ...big deal.

I can list dozens of female musicians - and I already have by the way - who are infinitely better than "Deborah" and Tiffany and Brittany and Janet all rolled up into one and not enough people care about them!

If Tiff wants to show her boobs to sell more CDs that's her trip. Don't perpetuate the illusion that this is newsworthy. Kristy Kruger can run circles around Tiffany in the talent department, and she doesn't have to strip in order to prove it.

No she shouldn't! She shouldn't have to!

There are reasons why we have laws against things like pornography, drugs prostitution and a host of things that some call victimless crimes. I happen to agree that in some cases, those crimes are victimless. However, sometimes they are not.

If given the chance there are desperate people who would exploit their physicality so they could pay their bills. In fact, despite the laws, there are people who do this. A woman who works in a strip club, even if they wear pasties or whatever to abide by legal requirements, is still exploiting her body in order to pay her bills. And such an employee of a strip club can make more money in one night than she could make as a checkout clerk in a month. Does that make it right?

I once met an exotic dancer who did it because the money was good AND she just enjoyed the dancing. She was a very talented dancer and had years of training under her belt, but the only way she could make money as a dancer was if she stripped, and that didn't bother her. The money was good and she got to do what she wanted. So one could argue that perhaps in this example, it wasn't wrong. One could also argue that a woman that talented as a dancer should be able to make a decent living as a dancer without having to show some dude in a suit her nipples. Cuz the dude in the suit didn't give a crap about how talented of a dancer she was. He just liked watching her boobs bob up and down. The woman's talent was being wasted on an audience that fully didn't appreciate it.

A talented woman like Kristy Kruger shouldn't have to exploit her physical beauty in order to get people to acknowledge that she's a talented singer, musician and songwriter. She should be able to make a good living based on her musical talents and her intelligence. And in fact she does make a living as a musician, but she isn't doing as well as Brittany Spears, partially because Kristy doesn't trot around on a stage dressed like Spears, or an employee at a strip club.

If Tiffany were half as talented, she'd be able to make a living without staples in her cleavage.

(I think he was making a joke dude.)

(Your earnestness is nevertheless appreciated, and you are by-and-large right. "By and large", "by-and-large" -- that's a fantastic thing to say.)

What?! When did this happen?! Holy crap, I got gigabytes of hard drive space I gotta delete, pronto!

Uh, where? Lemme guess- you were doing "research" as a part of a crusade against sin and sinners...

Yeah, what's up with that guy? Can you imagine? I mean, really- he's gotta be seriously disturbed to enjoy something like that! Watching a woman's boobies bounce around- man, what a prevert! Because "legitimate" dancing is so much better for women, you know.

A little backstory: my sister worked as an exotic dancer in NYC, to help pay the bills when she was younger. Said it was a wonderfully rewarding experience; she spent many traumatic years as a dancer being criticized because she wasn't skinny or waifish enough, going through bouts of anorexia because psychotic choreographers are terrified of any woman who has curves or hips or breasts. To this day, she still goes to therapy to help stave off eating disorders that were originally developed at those performing arts schools. She told me that when she started dancing in clubs, however, it did wonders for her ego- here she was, naked, dancing, and men were loving it, calling her beautiful and gorgeous and perfect. They weren't criticizing her body, or telling her to cut down to 500 calorie a day diets, or that she was too fat to be Sugar Plum Fairy.

So perhaps you'll want to muse on that anecdotal story before you regale us with the pathos and sickness that is exotic dancing compared to the more legitimate elements of dancing.

One veil down, six to go...
