Limp Bizkit Steal Music.

Limp Bizkit Steal Music. Well there's a surprise. Whilst crossing the country supposedly auditioning replacements for Monkey Boy, the world's most forgettable band, headed by Interscope VP Fred Durst, are taking the opportunity to steal licks from stacks of no-hoper guitarists for their own use without credit or recompense.

Sorry. I feel so sick and nauseous about posting a duplicate link that I have to pray at the porcelain altar to atone for my sins.

Considering how most double posts go, GrahamVM, you got off easy. If we have to fake politeness, you should be willing to fake contrition.

Plus, with lines like this: the world's most forgettable band, you cripple discussion right from the beginning. All of a sudden, this thread is a "they suck" "no, they ROOL" circle jerk.

rcade: The MeFi Police were never the same after the famous Metatalk 1996th thread decision.

Yeah, you've got a point there with the pejorative adjective thing.

As for the dupe-posting thing, (which seems to get blown out of proportion, considering that the people who call out duplicates seem to have an unholy mix of the prefect and "first post" mentalities.) how hard would it be to actually check the url against already posted links during the submission procedure? Instead of relying on the poster to do the search, as i neglected to do. It would at least kill the "welcome back kottke" posts, perhaps.

The MeFi post engine does check links against the database for repeats. In many cases, however, GrahamVM (such as this one), the story's common enough that there were different links for the same information.

People who post to the front page have the responsibility to try to help MeFi and not hinder it. This is accomplished a number of ways - by finding good links, by writing good posts, by not trolling in the post itself, by ensuring it's not a double-post. You're a better member if you do your homework (which in this case would have been easy) prior to making a post. Who are you doing this for, anyway? Yourself, or the community?

Sawks was perfectly civil. Owillis even gave a link illustrating how you could prevent such things happening again. And yet, you find yourself compelled to get defensive and jerky, GrahamVM. Grow up, or find yourself another online community.

I blame society.

Good post, Marquis.

I posted it because I thought it would be interesting. Got that? Good. Now take your holier-than-thou attitude and bugger off.

Right, we'll be charging them, too.

Wow, you guys are mean. It isn't as if he was intentionally attempting to destroy our precious online community with snarky rejoinders and such; he was attempting to contribute, which I would say is A Good Thing. As for the style of his post, most of us don't profess to be journalists and make no claim to objectivity. His opinion, while trite, is not misplaced, although it would have been more suited to an inside post so as to avoid coloring the discussion. So just lighten up. Yeah.

Ahh, another Quality MeFi Discussion.

Brought to you by the same people who suck ass for a living.

16 comments and nearly nary a one having to do with the post's content (because, gee, it was already discussed 150 posts ago!).

Yeah, MeFi hasn't gone downhill. It has fallen off a freakin' cliff and died and everybody's standing around saying, "Yeah, but is this news worthy of a MeFi front page posting?"
posted by yarf at 7:25 AM on February 8, 2002

people, people, the front page is too big. we all feel that. it wasn't posted that long ago. i remember it. i know that we are in a way upsetting people by saying this is a double post, but metafilter is in part going down hill because there are too many posts on the front page.

Do you not realize that this means less than a week ago, ie, the reason the post is eliciting no discussion is that the content has already been discussed?

Wow, you guys are mean.

Oh, grow up. Who here is being "mean"? Seriously. Point to the comment that's "mean". We're all adults here (I assume). No one is piling on. We all need to grow thicker skin.

I'll be happy when this thread goes away. Too much anger for a Friday. Loosen up, people. Mardi Gras is near...

I hate it when I go to a party and start a conversation, and then some hall monitor type tells me, "I'm sorry, we had that conversation a week ago. We can't talk about it again."

I hate it when I go to a party and I ask someone what this is that I'm eating, and they go "if I told you, you wouldn't be eating it."

Marquis: GrahamVM. Grow up, or find yourself another online community.

I would call that mean. And I will proudly defy you and avoid growing a thicker skin for as long as possible.

Admittedly, GrahamVM's snotty attitude about it does nothing short of beg for this kind of reaction. One might even call it trolling, as this double-post thing is apparently something everyone is very sensitive about.

MeFi really is dying.

Does this mean I can post another link about the same topic in a couple of days? Let's just do away with the search function and post links that rehash all the topics from the week before. No one reads the FP anymore anyway.

Perhaps part of the reason there are so many double-posts is that this place has become so useless that people don't bother reading it religiously and so miss what's been posted already.

Mind you, I am amazed no-one's posted the Tubcat link to the front page yet, so it's not quite bottom of the barrel yet. Since I'm pariah du jour, want me to do it? :)

Give me something to break

And thats your f****** face..."
