Town passes law banning nudity...... but more notable is the section of the law banning erections in males over 10 years old. Why was a law like this needed? (link via Obscure Store)

Hahaha. . .didja catch this typo in the article: "deviate sexual conduct"

Just try and imagine what "deviate sexual conduct" could be.

Why was a law like this needed?

For the children, silly.

"Among other things the new ordinance outlaws in public are sexual intercourse, deviate sexual conduct, appearing nude and fondling genitals."

So what's this "deviate sexual conduct," then? I might want to try some.

Giving an example of an enforceable situation, Kerstetter described a play he saw in college in which a piece of wood under a sheet was used to simulate a character's erection.

I got ten bucks that says it was this play.

ah...college...

I remember when my hometown went all a-flutter because a second dirty book store opened called "The Plain Brown Wrapper" -- kitty-corner from City Hall. Inside of two monhts the Council passed a new anti-pornography ordinance, which among other things, banned the sale of materials showing "the turgid male state".

There was a spate of jeering letters to the editor about that one. The funny thing was that the new ordinance, despite being researched by the corporation counsel to match other successful ordinances elsewhere, was deemed unenforceable by the District Attorney, and the bookstore was never prosecuted, and quietly went out of business within the year.

Let me just say here:

If boners were against the law when I was a teenager, they'd have given me the chair!!!

Instead, you just gave yourself a hand. Bwa!

"Among other things the new ordinance outlaws in public are sexual intercourse, deviate sexual conduct, appearing nude and fondling genitals."

"...children under 10 are exempt from the law."

Does that mean child porn is OK?

Imagine my surpise when I clicked the article and up came the masthead for the local newsrag! That town is only 10 miles from here and my friend's band plays at a bar there occasionally. I'll have to coax them into learning the song "Detachable Penis" to play there next time!

Heck, we've got three strip clubs in and around the town I live in - a law banning public wood would be devastating here!

Locust, PA? That's the town Waldo Jeffers resides at in the classic Velvet Underground song The Gift.

I'm from the area. Just a bit outside of Bloomsburg actually. Luckily, I make my home in Georgetown now.

Hmm ... it just occurred to me that there are sound evolutionary reasons, ie simple competition, for suppressing other people's sexuality. Especially in overcrowded conditions, like 99% of human settlements today.

Because there are reasons to try doesn't mean it's not stupid, of course.

There was a town in Italy a few years back that banned public nudity but with an exception for beautiful women...
