The Charlie Hebdo massacre [previously] was accompanied by a hostage crisis and further murders at the Hypercacher kosher supermarket in Porte de Vincennes. Several commentators have asked why the world's focus has been so firmly on the massacre of the cartoonists, but comparatively little on the explicitly anti-Semitic attack intended to support its perpetrators.

France's response to the most recent anti-Semitic attack has undoubtedly improved since 1980, when (then Prime Minister) Raymond Barre described an attack by saying that the attacker "wanted to kill Jews attending synagogue and he killed four French innocents crossing Rue Copernic". None the less, many French Jews are questioning their place in France.

The most widely-reported anti-Semitic attacks in and associated with France include the 2006 kidnap, torture, and murder of Ilan Halimi; the attack on a Jewish school in Toulouse in 2012 in which three students and a teacher were murdered; and the June 2014 attack on a Jewish museum in Brussels by a French Jihadist. Besides these attacks there have been literally hundreds of others in the past year alone, including anti-Semitic chants by demonstrators, attacks on Jewish businesses, and firebombings and sieges of French synagogues.

Bonus: Five-part series (now somewhat overtaken by events) on anti-Semitism in France, by Marc Weitzmann:

This post was deleted for the following reason: Getting flagged like crazy, sorry what I said earlier over email, probably should go in the Charlie Hebdo thread as a comment instead. -- mathowie

Also, Brussels is not in France.

The guy who killed the people in Brussels came from France, and the post said "in and associated with France'. I hope this puts that minor issue behind us and we can discuss the main thrust of the post now.
