Those monkeys are mostly red-tailed guenons, and a lot of that chittering is alarm calling from those monkeys, and others, in response to the cat being seen. Here's a good example of that from the forest I work in!

"Interestingly," one researcher remarked, "we filmed this footage shortly after introducing the can opener to the local monkey population."

This was a tantalizing clip. Could the cat have been just screwing with the monkey?

It was unclear to me whether the cat was playing or looking for a meal. The other monkeys didn't seem to be overly alarmed at the attack. I could hear them chattering, but I don't speak monkey, so I can't tell if they were saying run for your life or knock it off bozo.

Those were definitely alarm calls, but it looks like I was wrong about the kind of monkeys that were being hunted (they're these guys). Here is another video of the cat at Kibale going after some red colobus.

I like that it lurks in the trees. It has a very Adorable Furry Death From Above vibe going on.

Round and round the old tree stump
The monkey fled the feline
The monkey nearly became lunch
Rawr! went the feline.
