In case it's not obvious, each of the historic sites listed is a link to an extended history and dozens of images from each location.

Going to Sri Lanka in a month!

This, and the local word for ice cold beer will be invaluable resources.

Keith, my wife and I got married in Sri Lanka and I don't know that we encountered a single person who did not speak English.

And a cold Lion at the end of a hot day is heaven!

You can wait til the end of the day? You are a better man than I.

And I hope Sri Lanka is an outlier in terms of what constitutes a cold beer on the sub-continent.

I was in Kandy in 2004 when the tsunami hit. I fell in love with what little I saw of the country and it's people then and I've always wanted to go back.

Sri Lanka is home to Kataragama, the destination of perhaps the oldest continuous foot pilgrimage still practiced today, the Pada Yatra. Associated with the Hindu god Murugan, Kataragama is also considered a holy place by the Buddhists, Muslims and aboriginal Veddah people. The Cultural Survival Trust works to conserve and celebrate the many holy power spots around the island. Much much more available through Sri Lanka's Living Heritage Network.
