Republicans have questions about female anatomy

An Idaho congressman asks: "Can you use a swallowed camera to conduct a gynecological exam?"

In the Idaho legislature, there is currently a discussion going on about whether to ban telemedical consultations for women aborting via medical means. In the midst of Dr. Julie Madsen's testimony against the proposed ban, Republican Vito Barbieri asked her whether a vagina, like a colon, can be examined via swallowed camera. Barbieri sits on the board of a crisis pregnancy center and voted in favor of the leglislation. Of the media response to his comment, he's claiming that he meant it as a rhetorical question, which may indeed be the case. But does it matter? Barbieri is staking out a position as an authority on public health procedures regarding telemedicine and abortion more prominently--should he be implying publicly that he doesn't understand how the digestive system is hooked up in the human body?
