For a second I was hopeful that Norstein had released something new, but apparently this short was made in 1969. Alas!

From his wikipedia entry:

Since 1981 he has been working on a feature film called The Overcoat, based on the short story by Nikolai Gogol of the same name.

I really hope he finishes before he leaves us.

From the style of the titles this looks as if it's taken from the 'Masters Of Russian Animation' DVD series, which is full of wonderful stuff and everyone should buy it.

... Except Masters of Russian Animation seems to be quite hard to get hold of now, looking at the Amazon prices, so everyone should watch it on Youtube now then buy it later somehow.
