Schiit Happened

As someone in the early stages of starting a niche hardware company, I find this really interesting. I've been skipping around the list of posts, but so far each chapter has had some great insights. It seems like over the past 15-20 years, "startup" has been redefined to mean "website with plans to sell out for $1bn," so it's refreshing to read about a company that actually makes something and is (or was) an actual self-funded startup.

Fascinating. I’m the very happy owner of a Schiit Gungnir and a Mjolnir (covered in Chapter 17) driving a pair of Audeze LCD-2.
One of the things that caught my attention regarding this company was their engineering and their humour — the latter well characterised in their own appraisal of their PYST USB cables:

USB PYST. This is the complete redefinition of USB cables. It actually, physically transports you* into an alternate universe where superbly-mastered, 24/192 music streams 24/7, free of charge to all listeners, for all genres. Supermodels in this alternate world are all deeply into high-end audio, and will beg to go out with you. Butterflies swirl in fantastic colors over clean-lined porcelain cityscapes, everyone is a millionaire, and flying cars run on air. It's a beautiful place to be!posted by bouvin at 10:19 AM on March 1, 2015 [2 favorites]
*Or not. It may have been a hallucination. USB PYSTs are actually just nice, 1M long, USB 2.0-rated cables that have thicker than normal power conductors and silver-plated copper data lines. We think the electrons like silver better, or something. Or not.
I can listen to nerds talk about the things they do for a really surpassing amount of time.

I own a Modi and Magni pairing that power a set of Bose QC 15 headphones through a MacPro.
No complaints. Bass is deep and roomy.
