Letting It Slide(show)

Favorite of MetaFilter and much of the Internet Neil Cicierega has something new, and it's not a musical mashup - in fact, it's completely silent. It's OUTSLIDE, a tumblr blog where he has curated and collected some of the best - or worst - or best of the worst - presentation slides posted on slideshare.net (previously)

I thought he was making these up and posting them to his tumblr.

Slideshare is weirdly addictive. I've used it on more than a few occasions to do actual research on things people have "presented" about a prior client I had. The rabbit holes are everywhere and this tumblr makes perfect sense to me.

hellojed: "I thought he was making these up and posting them to his tumblr."

nope, it appears there is a whole world out there that I had no idea about

"Can i get my nose pierced" is great. It's apparently a 5-slide presentation on said subject from a teen girl to her parents from August 2013. As much as I'd like to know how it all turned out, there's really no way to ask without acting like a horribly creepy stalker.

I don't love every single thing the guy does, but he is amazingly prolific and his batting average is impressive.

"Can i get my nose pierced" is great.

Stuff like that makes me very glad that the web wasn't such a thing when I was a kid. I mean, it was around, but it wasn't really a thing until 1995 or so and by then I was too old to post embarrassing teenager stuff. This girl's rant was funny, but I really hope it doesn't go viral. She's just a teenager throwing a tantrum, you know?

also this reminds me of the time in class when we had to learn to make powerpoint and they told us to make a presentation and there was a requirement that we use clipart and headers for some reason so I just had a slide that was bread clipart and the slide said BREAD. whatever, i was 14, non sequiturs were totally in at the time. i saved the file and thought nothing of it

but they never wiped the hard drives between class years and so the next year some of the students in that class, who were friends of mine, found a presentation that I think might've been on something completely unrelated to bread and so it was just like "TOPIC THING BY (NORAREED)" and then there was the bread thing and they were super confused and it took me forever to figure out what they were on about but apparently they puzzled over it for most of a class period

Look, if I wanted to waste time reviewing other people's terrible powerpoints, I'd just go into my office, OK?

someone needs to make a program that generates random slideshows from these and then people could attempt to give presentations based on them as an improv exercise

so is this going to be the next social media phenomenon: teens sharing power point slide decks with each other like some combination of facebook and magic the gathering?

My neices, twins who are age 16, also prepared a PowerPoint show to make the case for nose piercings to their parents. Maybe it's a thing?

This is a dangerously good idea.

But did they also use tacos as bullet-point images? Because Dadaism is the best way to ensure parental compliance.

That teenage nose piercing PP slideshow is funny and absurd, but you have to admit, ending her deck with Any judgment I receive from whatever disgusting turd bothers me Is my problem is pretty baller.

No, their business is selling a pie. They sold most of it in the first quarter and the rest in quarters 2, 3 & 4.

It's rainbow pie.

Thanks for sharing Found Chart.

This might be my new favorite: "cyprus / cypress / cypriots / cypriots = ship-riots = pirates." The fact that Cyprus looks vaguely like a parrot if you rotate it roughly 75 degrees has blown my mind.
