The Pollen Detective: A Science-y Murder Mystery from New Zealand

Here's a true-crime story of mine that was just published. Ever heard of forensic palynology? I hadn't either, until I read about Dallas Mildenhall in 2010 or 2011. Then I learned about the murder of Mellory Manning, the stymied investigation, and the role of pollen evidence in the case. I flew to New Zealand in 2014 to meet Mildenhall and learn about his demons. This story is the result of that work. Also: some terrific art by an illustrator named Cam Floyd. That alone is worth the click.
