The Best of Black Punk Rock, in My Humble Opinion

This looks wonderful, and "First World Problems" is a perfect band name.

Also, I have to admit that ol' Maxi-Rocker is way more interesting than it was, say, ten years ago.

This is more the coolness of this individual blogger than MRR isn't it? Or did MRR start having interesting writing again?

She's dead on RE: Sneaks. I saw her at the Back Alley Theater in DC last year, and she wowed even the crusty harDCore vets in the room. First time in a while that I'd felt we might still really have it going on musically as a city.

Love Sneaks. Not enough focus on this genre. Made my day, thanks for the link!

I last read MRR regularly in 2001 or so I really don't know anything about it's quality ups and downs.

Sick Sad World!

Killer sax, high speed thrashy female-fronted hardcore, AND a Daria reference bandname? Hell yeah!

Sneaks is pretty damn cool! Puts me in mind of The Austerity Program, but in a quiet bedroom kind of way.

No Bellrays? (Maybe not according to Hoyle 'punk,' but they have the attitude and have been bringing it for years.)

I gotta give a shout out for my cousin's ska/punk band Hub City Stompers. He's black, even if I'm not.

Cool article!

From 1978, here's Pure Hell. Bad Brains cite these guys as an influence. Wiki.

Or did MRR start having interesting writing again?

Was there a time when they ever did?

Mimi Nguyen's comment after issue 384 of MR&R which includes Osa Atoe of Shotgun Seamstress talking to Monica Estrella Negra about Chicago’s Black and Brown Punk Shows: "It is so amazing to me to pick up an issue of @maxrnr and see a real-life version of punk that is just what I wanted when I was 16."

I haven't seen an issue of MRR in more than a decade. I'm glad it is still around.

The main link isn't opening for me, but from the comments here this is music I would like, so hopefully it will work on another device.

Late, but I started a Spotify playlist of as many of the the suggestions from this blog were on Spotify (few) plus the Tumbler list linked. My favorite find so far (because I'm a pop punk slob) is the Tuts.

I hadn't heard of any of these, and now Trash Kit and associated acts are my favourite thing. Thanks so much!
