console.mihai(); // Thank you, Mihai

Mihai's legacy is that there are hundreds of millions of people using a product, Firefox, that Mihai contributed to, hundreds of thousands of them of them spend a significant proportion of their time in the console that was his responsibility. And there are billions of people using websites created by people directly helped by Mihai's work.

A few days ago Mihai Șucan went home to Romania. We're not expecting him to fix any more bugs in Firefox, but I'd like to raise a glass of Țuică, to the 1919 bugs that he has been involved in fixing in Firefox.

Devtools at Mozilla has only been a serious thing for a bit under 5 years. Firebug is much older, but wasn't really a Mozilla project. We started for real in the middle on 2010, and Mihai was one of the first people to start helping.

Lovely and sad.

I rarely think about the people who power the internet, because it works so well, but I'm awfully glad they do, and glad to take a moment to think about Mihai and all his colleagues, including you mefites who make the internet "just work."

I had no idea, and sadly lacked the curiosity to find out who was responsible for making the console what it is.

Apparently, he's been using SwiftKey for the past year to hammer out code and blog posts, which is a fairly impressive feat of perseverance...

Also: In Firefox, try running the title command in the console.

Much like Rebecca Purple, Mihai's tribute-in-code will live on.

Well, no wonder he did such amazing things, always being so close to death.

That said, RIP. I think I saw a news story about a boy who had this condition.. It was definitely something I would not want to have and it seems so painful. Amazes me how much people persevere for so long, sometimes letting nature take its course, others, the pain too much to bear... Some conquering all odds, some ending up just another Joe livin' day to day.

I complain when I have an "off" day and mentally just am not fully with it to do productive things, and here we have someone who's always got an off day doing so much more than I ever have... Always nice to know that there are so many people doing so many wonderful things, and so many are never known, because they're plugging away without glory. They're not trying to be the next Zuckerberg, cash in on the next IPO, they do it out of love.
