Can't remember your phone number? At the phonespell.org website you can get a list of all the possible word combinations made by your phone number. If you have 1's and 0's in your number, the possibilities are fewer.

They log your IP and any digits you enter. Says so in the FAQ.

When I was in college, my phone number was 334-HUCK. So close, so close...

My girlfriend's number was 334-MEAN. My parents couldn't remember my number, so they left messages for me with her.

Also, a nice drunken activity is calling people and letting them know which dirty words can be made using their number. Believe me, most people are HAPPY to find out their number is 321-FART.

Most common response: "Oh, cool. Thanks."

I'm proud to admit I've got the queen mother of all naughty phone numbers. 382-5968.

The downside is that at least once a day, someone calls me and says they were paged to my number. If I'm in a good mood, I'll explain it to them, if I'm in a bad mood, I'll hang up =) Also, there's the occasional drunken teenager who calls me up to inform me of just what it spells.

But I keep the number anyway, because its a fun story to tell to girls in bars. =)

SAFE-LAB was the most memorable number I ever had, although I did know a girl who managed to get RED-MARS.

Tangent.... Many years ago, in the 613 Warez scene, there was a world-class BBS known as The Ghostship. It was infamous for it's CD-jukebox, and many-noded ringdown with 2 (2!) 14400 high-speed lines.

The local computer crime division were trying desperately to locate this board and shut it down, but they were unable to get it's phone number, even after many many months of investigation.

They did bring it down eventually, but only a disgruntled warez kiddie ratted out the board, in return for charges brought against him bring dropped.

The phone number of the world-renouned Ghostship, that the police searched for in vain for years? GHOSTIE.

Actually, after I typed in my digits and submitted, to no avail I might add, the thought occurred to me that I just gave my number away to billions of telemarketers who are probably funding this site. My question to ya'll: Is this possible, and we're all idiots, or am I just being too cynical?

There are much easier ways of getting phone numbers than using a page like that (which doesn't collect area codes!).

While I realize that particular page does not collect area codes, I was imagining one that did. It would be a perfect way to collect phone numbers that targeted the "active Internet user" demographic.

If it collects numbers for spamly purposes then I sure hope they filter some stuff out. I just plugged in about 20 numbers for the D.C., NYC, L.A., Chicago and Detroit PDs fraud prevention lines, some State Attorneys General and the FTC, FBI, CIA and White House.

Childish, I know, but I was pissed, none of my phone numbers were very interesting.
