The Mixed-Up Brothers of Bogotá:
After a hospital error, two pairs of Colombian identical twins were raised as two pairs of fraternal twins. This is the story of how they found one another — and of what happened next.
A fascinating and improbable tale of coincidence, family, class, and genetics. [SLNYT]

Wait don't tell me they were travelling by sea and a tempest came upon their ship. Then their helpful ship was splitted in the midst; so that, in this unjust divorce, Fortune had left to both alike what to delight in, what to sorrow for.

Well, since it's contemporary Columbia rather than 18th Century France: Start the Counter-revolution Without Me.

This is the stuff telenovelas are made of.

I found the whole "no matter how hard you work you can't escape your situation" part to be pretty heartbreaking.

I found the whole "no matter how hard you work you can't escape your situation" part to be pretty heartbreaking.

That's one of the things that made me believe it was real and not some bizarre prank.

...which is terrible, I realize.

If they did the telenovela of Switched At Birth about this, I'd love it.

I feel sorry for Carlos reading this, though--dude was already born the mopiest of the bunch and then this happens.

Seriously.

"Sometimes Carlos told himself, with a strange twisted relief, that he was glad this had all happened after his mother died; the jealousy he would have felt had she embraced William as Jorge had would have been more than he could take."

That part made me raise a fist to my mouth and murmur, "Oh, sweetheart," like he was a sad puppy.

What a great and also heartbreaking story.
