Smuggled Photos Document Thousands Of Detainee Deaths In Syria - "The photos are graphic. They were smuggled out of Syria by a regime photographer - a military officer - who had the job of documenting the deaths of some 11,000 detainees. Activists put the photos online, and Syrians are searching them for missing loved ones." (previously)

This is horrifying. It is absolutely clear that something should be done about this, but it is totally unclear to me what that is.

It's times like this I hope that Andy Weir's "The Egg" is a complete fabrication with no truth whatsoever.

What can be done: pressure our governments to accept more Syrian refugees. Sponsor refugees - there are millions displaced by both Assad and Islamic State. Pray.

I have a strong suspicion there will be lots of people with an R next to their names who will be offering one answer to that question.

I wonder how the Iranian nuclear deal (assuming it 100% goes through) will affect the Syrian Civil War. I would think that the loosening of the international sanctions on Iran will ultimately result in strengthening of Assad's grip.

So a good friend of mine is a Goon and apparently there's someone who used to be on the forum who went to Libya to fight and then to Syria. My understanding is that he was captured and died in one of these prisons. It is fucking horrifying, both the story and what was said to have been done to all those people there. I can't believe that would be done.

This is appalling. I have to invoke Mr. Rogers here and say, "Look for the helpers"

"Caesar" is an exceptionally brave and selfless person. Imagining gathering all this information about horrors and knowing that if you slip up, the same things will happen to you. My hat is off to him.
