Angela Merkel makes Palestinian refugee girl cry

"As long as I don't know how long I can stay here, I don’t know what my future will be."

“You’re a very nice person but you know that there are thousands and thousands of people in Palestinian refugee camps in Lebanon and if say 'you can all come,' and 'you can all come from Africa,' and 'you can all come,' we just can't manage that."

This post was deleted for the following reason: This is cringeworthy to me and totally emblematic for the undercurrent of NIMBY-ism in Euro politics right now -- but it's also a bit on the Newsfilter side of things, and I'm inclined to give this one a pass, sorry. -- goodnewsfortheinsane

and yesterday she said marriage was between a man and a woman. but i find it worrying that these reports play so nicely into a wider political story. there was something similar with netanyahu a while back. there's a clear attempt at pushing a particular interpretation of events by selecting what is reported (and i say that despite being in favour of the "angle" being pushed, in both cases).

You would think that Germany, of all places, would try extra hard to find room for Palestinian refugees. Germany, and Europe as a whole, bears the ultimate responsibility for the Palestinian refugee crisis.
