At least we’ll have a couple months of peace and quiet around here.

“Bibi always gets a little cranky when he sees us talking to Iran, but a few dozen short-range surface-to-surface missiles usually cheer him right up,” joked The Onion last Tuesday, after a deal was reached allowing Iran to safely pursue peaceful nuclear uses, while lifting years of sanctions. This surprised Israeli paper Haaretz, as The Onion had just scooped their story. They reported that President Obama had called Netanyahu on Tuesday, offering immediate talks to upgrade the Israel Defense Forces’ offensive and defensive capabilities. “I’m prepared to go further than any other administration’s gone before in terms of providing them additional security assurances from the United States," Obama told the NY Times, the same day The Onion released their story.

This post was deleted for the following reason: Jokey Onion framing is not great way to introduce this, which is about an offer to "begin immediate talks"; perhaps better to hold off until talks are actually underway/affirmed, or discuss in the open Iran thread in the meantime -- taz
