This piece really struck me as something special. It said what was needed to be said, and did so very well.

Winter writes well (no surprise) and to the point about Pearl the journalist.

Daniel Pearl also died as a Jew. My rant on his death Have you ever wondered why there aren't more Jews? (aside from folks killing us?) and Meryl's even deeper tribute.

I'm confused. I thought that the implication of his 'I am a Jew' statement was that it was something he was forced to say by way of giving the murders justification for killing him, claiming he was a Mossad spy or somthing.

The quote from the piece that I liked most was:

'Certainly it will remind us that the outputs of a brave and independent press are so important, so basic to the development and maintenance of free societies, that they are, yes, worth dying for.'
