In March, the CDC released an overview of sexually transmitted disease statistics assembled from 2013 data. Rentapplication.com then produced a color-coded map.
These numbers include chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis only, and exclude herpes, HIV, and others.
The 10 cities with the highest rates of STDs per 100,000 people are:
1. Montgomery, Alabama – 1,899.20
2. St. Louis, Missouri – 1,867.54
3. West Memphis, Arkansas – 1,717.29
4. Philadelphia, Pennsylvania – 1,689.77
5. Norfolk, Virginia - 1632.74
6. Baltimore, Maryland - 1630.98
7. Richmond, Virginia - 1544.39
8. New Orleans, Louisiana – 1520.37
9. Killeen, Texas - 1512.83
10. Fayetteville, North Carolina - 1489.2

This post was deleted for the following reason: Seems like this is maybe not the best presentation and framing of the data; same info with a different presentation could be good post? -- LobsterMitten
per 100,000 people who rent their homes?

This seems really odd to me as they're counting the ones about which I'm less worried and discounting the ones that terrify me.

Why?
If the data came from Rentapplication.com?

Sorry, that sounded really self-centered, I recognize that I'm not the standard for making these decisions, it's jut that counting STD/Is and NOT counting herpes or HIV seems pretty flawed to me.

roomthreeseventeen, the data is from the CDC. Rentapplication just plotted it.

Ah, ok, so it's not CDC that's responsible for that tremendously irresponsible headline.

Because the CDC is in the business controlling disease, not terrifying people, which does the opposite.

There are multiple data points for the same city near me. Which one do I go by?
This is... not the best link. It's data that isn't plotted correctly hosted by a site that's obviously using it as clickbait.

Other maps to overlay this with:
* Poverty rate
* Number of Planned Parenthood clinics in the area
* Prevalence of abstinence education classes vs sex education classes
* Percentage of uninsured people
* Highest education attained by women

That is to say, the map isn't well-done. The CDC stats are viable but this isn't a good source for visualization.

HPV is another that curiously is missing from that list. However, it looks like the CDC didn't have a full data set for it. There's partial geographic data in one of the later figures in the source report.
And they make a a very strong argument that the HPV vaccine should be given to boys as well as girls.

Wouldn't it be the 10 cities with the highest rates of STDs per 100,000 people who rent their homes?
