Cats playing fetch isn't as anomalous as it sound. I had a cat (a Burmese) who would play fetch with a catnip-stuffed mouse. That said, he always seemed to do so with an air of “OK, throw it for me again”, rather than “here you are, sir!”.

A friend used to have a Siamese cat who would play fetch with itself -- he would knock a pen off the desk, go get it and put it back in the same spot, then knock it off again.
