A lot of remembrances about her popping up on twitter. This one is my favorite so far.

I like how the bat "girl" was already an experienced 30-year-old when they made that show. In Dobie Gillis alone, she had already been Linda Sue Faversham, Elspeth Hummaker, Hazel Grimes, Myrna Lomax, Aphrodite Millican, and Girl #1, and her "father" in Batman was born in the 19th century and worked for D.W. Griffith. (I have to be careful not to waste entire mornings wandering around imdb.)

Huge crush. Not only was she so beautiful and sexy but I loved the character of batgirl, she did things her own way independently without the support system of all those caves and butlers.

By the way, Star Trek fans may remember her as the green Orion slave girl.

I want so badly to believe that there is an alternative universe where all of the original Trek cast still dwell, looking just as they did in 1969, that It shocked me to read that Craig's unforgettable green hottie was in fact a septuagenarian.

I always assumed that the batgirl character was a contemporary of Robin (hence the girl) but she was never "the girl wonder". She was clearly her own figure - Batman had no sway over her - and this is how Craig played it. She put Robin and his creepy relationship with the much older Bruce Wayne to shame.

At the very least Craig's portrayal certainly deserves credit for my remembering it as such.

I hope it is not bad manners to say that, as a small child, I am pretty sure I experienced my first twinges of sexual attraction when I saw Batgirl on TV. She was just an extraordinary amount of fun to watch, and I have very fond memories of her.

Another guy who wants to make sure we understand that he masturbated to our photos.

This one is my favorite so far.

Mark Evanier usually has the best stories, and I always get a little disappointed when he has to cop to not knowing some recently-demised celebrity. He seems to have worked with or know almost everybody in 1960s Hollywood (and beyond).

(also it's hard to imagine that there isn't a straight American dude over the age of 40 who didn't spank it to Batgirl at least once)

Comics writer Gail Simone (who wrote Barbara Gordon in Birds of Prey and Batgirl) writes about the impact Craig had when she arrived in Batman. (Playboy link; Article text is fully SFW but it's still playboy.com)

Actually, I was thinking about yesterday how all of Barbara Gordon's clothes were pretty awesome. That Yvonne Craig the person was pretty awesome too makes me very happy.

pracowity, a small child feeling the first twinges of sexual attraction is not masturbating. That's a sick premise, and misandrous.

That's a quote from George_Spiggott's link and does not appear to be particularly aimed at Mr. Justice.

I had a HUUUGE girl crush on Yvonne Craig. Those cheekbones! And she was just so cool - like a masked yeye girl. Such a great role model of how to kick ass in the most ladylike of ways.

Personally I read it both ways and laughed a lot. But I saw it as a teasing reproof, and not an altogether serious one. The up: consider lightening it.

I remember watching her as a small child (probably in reruns) and wanting to grow up to be Batgirl. RIP.
