The first case of Homosexual Necrophilia in the Mallard

Perhaps the first opera inspired by a journal article about homosexual necrophiliac ducks, but certainly not the first opera inspired by homosexual necrophiliac ducks themselves, as we know from Mozart's la Camera da letto del'Anitra.

Rather startled, I watched this scene from close quarters behind the window (Fig. 1) until 19.10 h during which time (75 minutes!) I made some photographs and the mallard almost continuously copulated his dead congener.
[...]
I secured the dead duck and left the museum at 19.25 h. The mallard was still present at the site, calling 'raeb-raeb' and apparently looking for his victim (who, by then, was in the freezer).

Reminds me of the old canard "A dead duck in the freezer saves a lot of flapping around."

No, wait, that's not it...

The first case of Homosexual Necrophilia in the Mallard

For some reason my brain tried to parse this as a reference to Mallard Fillmore, and I thought "Whoa, that's a seriously unexpected change of direction for that strip!"

Good lord, the rapist duck took FOREVER to get down to business, and when he finally did, they put up a privacy screen!!! What part of "I came here to see duck rape" did the folks who made this show miss?
