President Obama is Having the Time of His F***ing Life in Alaska
September 4, 2015 2:11 AM   Subscribe

President Obama recently made a somewhat historical visit to the State of Alaska. While there, he posted a travelogue, met an adorable husky puppy, talked about the very real threat of climate change, but mostly just got jiggy with it.

Good. He's the best. Glad he's visiting Alaska. It's about time he went up and offered some relief to folks who have had to suffer the shame of sharing their state with Sarah Palin and her gang of yokels.

He should move there and run for Governor. And then Senator.

Would the "very real threat" of climate change be exacerbated by the arctic drilling that Obama recently approved? This guy is such a towering hypocrite that I just can't stand it sometimes.

Pretty much the story of my life.

"It is unconscionable that anyone who is running for president should ignore this impending global crisis. Yet, it is also disappointingly hypocritical for our current president to speak so eloquently and boldly about the problem while giving the OK for arctic drilling. Not only could spills from those new drilling rigs in the Chukchi Sea wreak environmental havoc in the fragile Arctic region, but every drop of the oil brought to the surface, refined and sold as fuel for cars and industry, will add to the carbon emissions that are warming the atmosphere and acidifying the seas."

why did he approve arctic drilling? I'm gonna speculate that there was some sort of ideas that Russia/China would lay claims to these waters if he didn't?

Alright, who's going to help me up.

I think low oil prices are going to do more to prevent Arctic drilling than anything Obama does.

> No, Obama isn't a climate hypocrite.

oh god what a sniveling turd of a non-defense. it boils down to a link to a blog post from some guy at a washington think tank going, "nuh uh, because markets or something. also the oil companies are very careful 'n stuff because they told me so". i guess i shouldn't be surprised when it's coming from something that calls itself "post-partisan". *barf*

What does it say about Obama's commitment to the environment that he's hobnobbing with infamous nature-hater Bear Grylls?

I was wondering if anyone knows whether this is the first time an American president has participated in an indigenous dance?

I love how that woman in the dance video is sitting next to the friggin President of the United States but her #1 priority is getting the kids dancing on her phone. Mad parent props.

Example of Grylls' hate for Nature .

Well, he seems kooky but so long as he ate all the bats he killed... He a wilderness survival TV persona, right? (Sorry, don't have the million channels of cable, which I assume is how people know about the likes of him, and Shark Week, and Housewives of the Trendy City of the Year, and whatnot.)

It was a scheduling mix-up. Obama really wanted to meet Les Stroud so he'd have someone to commiserate with about feeling like he has to do all the work alone by himself while the world around seems to conspire against his success.

I may be naive but I don't get it, I admit I know little about Mr. Grylls so perhaps there is other evidence but this video is a guy catching bats, "nature hater" seems a bit extreme.

I voted for him twice. Do I feel like I voted for the right person? Yes. Given my choices, I'm satisfied. Could he have been a better president? Maybe. Could he have been worse? OMG don't even ask.

"nature hater" seems a bit extreme.

His show was called "Man vs. Wild," which posits that his relationship with Nature is adversarial. He typically approaches his situations with an attitude that he's going to overpower whatever obstacles he encounters, while killing any wildlife he can. Some of the animals he's killed were endangered species. That's when he's not sleeping in a hotel while letting his viewers believe he's out in the woods.

I for one support his right to grill bears; I'm just not sure whether that's covered by the 2nd Amendment, the 4th, or the 5th.

These things are within well defined territorial boundaries, so that the particular drilling he's allowed doesn't relate to that.

The territorial landgrab going on in the Arctic right now is who owns the North Pole. There's no easy answer to that, but the current leases on exploration don't really play a part in that.

If that oil can be extracted without spills (a big if!), I don't see the problem. We still need oil at this point. Better if it comes from us than the Russians. Better it comes from the Arctic than tar sands.

The main worry I have is the damage a spill causes.
