to buy sports car. they had come from their kindergarten to buy a Jaguar but did not have any money.

She put them in her car and drove them to a police station.

The boys had prepared their escape for several days, digging a hole under a fence using spades from the sandpit...

Did anyone else feel a bit sorry for the supervisor? Maybe it is just me, but that seemed like an extremely hard event to predict and plan for. And, it could lead to future supervisors running the centre much more like a prison.

Many of the comments on The Guardian seem to go along the lines of, well if this had happened here, the supervisor would've been vilified by the masses, suspended/punished/held culpable, etc.

Yeah, as a (slightly older) kid I frequently slipped away from supervising adults to go wander in the woods at summer camp. My sympathies are with the supervisor.
