Manfried the Man

Manfried the Man is the new comic by Caitlin Major about the absolutely adorable hijinks of Manfried, who entertains his owner Steve, a middle-aged single cat. "Manfried is a grumpy, lazy, balding, overfed pet man. He is prone to inappropriate displays of affection, sleeping in the sun, leaving his coarse body hair all over the couch, and willfully knocking things off tables and benches. He keeps Steve company though, and occasionally will kill a mouse or spider to save Steve." Also appearing so far is Roger, the pet man belonging to Steve's neighbor Chelsea.

This seems like a very efficient comic, in the sense that it has already exhausted its premise after three strips.

Ha! Exhausted its premise. That's a good one, Wolfdog.

I'm a middle-aged man owned by a cat and I think a better title for this would be Manfried the Meh.

Well, someone named Wolfdog would feel that this strip had exhausted its premise. If Manfried were owned by - let's say - a dog who was also a wolf, I bet this soi-disant Wolfdog would like the whole thing a lot better, hm?

Cute, but I'm only seeing 3 comics. Are there more?

I note he's been neutered.

Now that it's exhausted its premise, time for Manfried Minus Manfried?

Based on well-documented cat behaviors, I'd say it has a few more strips before it has "exhausted its premise". I just worry about when it does... will it begin directly copying Garfield or (shudder) Heathcliff? Maybe Stimpy. Or Sylvester, but that requires a prey adversary, would this universe's Tweety be a bird or an even smaller human? It gets complicated.

In doing some basic research on cartoon cats Manfried can emulate, I learned that not only is Gumball from the Cartoon Network show officially a cat, but his family name is Watterson. I wonder what a particular tiger thinks of that.

I have two little humans, ages 6 and 4, and save for the fact that I'm not a cat, this comic reads like a documentary.

I'm sure I've seen this premise somewhere else, but I'm totally blanking on it. Maybe a Youtube video.

Sort of like this NSFW Man Eggs Comic from a few years ago, except you know, lighthearted and whimsical.

Manfried has gone viral... less than a week after the first comic, the creator will be selling "minicomic" books at Small Press Expo.

@POTUS Cool comic, Caitlin. Want to bring it to the White House? We should inspire more kids like you to like comix. It's what makes America great.

Manfried is rather cute.

The Adventures of Business Cat plays with a lot of the same "what if people did cat things" ideas, but with a man-sized cat instead of a cat-sized man.
