It's a different style of electronic music than these women are making, but you all need to check out Void Vision. She makes insanely cool cold wave music that you can shake your butt too in a gloomy way. I've seen her perform live, surrounded by keyboard and drum machines, and still can't figure out how she gets it all to work.

I'm well passed my club days, but that is some good stuff!

Yuss, this is good. Those on the list I know are great, and those I don't are also awesome! And more recommendations here!

Sadly, I can only add one more name as a new artist off the top of my head (and by looking at my sad little music collection at hand - I'll be back with more!): the impossible-to-search-for GEoRGiA (micro-bio; Soundcloud) kills the spooky beats, and drummed for Kate Tempest, a rapper and poet (best previously evaaa). Here's a full stream of Georgia's self-titled full album.

Damn, that is some great music, and right up my alley.

Wait, no mention of Isabelle Rezazadeh, aka Rezz?

Vectroid seems to have slowed down and gotten involved with things other than Vaporwave, but she's still making music under new aliases.

Anja Schneider was maybe considered too similar to Ellen Allien to make this list but her music and Mobilee in general are very well-regarded. Belize was an enormous tech house track in 2008.

Also female:pressure is a good source of names of women working in electronic music (previously).

That original list is pretty bad. WHERE IS FATIMA AL QADIRI?
posted by ACair at 7:16 PM on October 14, 2015

Laurel Halo
J Phlip
Barbara Morgenstern
Magda
Empress Of

All that said, a scroll back through my Rdio play history reveals quite a sausage fest. I really appreciate articles like this bringing a greater diversity of artists to my attention.

I have a good friend that is an fabulous DJ and producer who happens to be female. I like her music because I like her music, not because I'm her friend, but I'm still wary of posting and seeming promo-y.

On the internet, no one know's who is your friend (until you tell us, or we see pictures of you hanging out together, or you tweet about that silly pigeon you both just saw).

One more, for those who like Rebecca & Fiona -- Little Jinder, who is now writing music in her native Swedish after her "English sound was kind of worn out and flat". Her look and sound is a lot different from my prior point of reference, her 2008 look and sound (which changed even in a year, for her first big single).

Please link it! Nothing could be more relevant to this thread.

No mention of Taylor Swift, who holds the trademark on the phrase “sick beat”?

Taylor Swift

The door's right over there :P

How about:

Ayria
Frightdoll / Miss FD
Ill-Esha
S.I.N.A / Pzychobitch
Tonikom

acb is more referencing how Swift is suing all-comers for using her trademarked phrases

More! (still embarrassed I forgot Fatima al Qadiri and Laurel Halo tbh)

Gazelle Twin
Inga Copeland
Lena Willikens
Nidia Minaj
and an especially glaring omission from my first list- Grimes (I guess I mentally filed her under pop or whatever, but her earliest albums are instrumental, she self-produces and has serious technical skill)

ACair: "That original list is pretty bad."

acb: "No mention of Taylor Swift, who holds the trademark on the phrase “sick beat”?"

New house rule: If you make a comment like this, you contribute to the discussion. It's easy, you do it like this: tantrumthecat: "Wait, no mention of Isabelle Rezazadeh, aka Rezz?"

That way, we get new things to enjoy and admire. Thanks!

Merzbau: "Gazelle Twin "

Oh, man, Gazelle Twin is so ridiculously good. I love everything that I've heard from her.
