Under the name Attaboy Clarence/The Secret History Of Hollywood, Adam Roche creates very long, very in-depth podcasts about classic Hollywood how it relates to broader sociopolitical trends. Clocking in at 171 minutes, Hunting Witches With Walt Disney goes into the background, motivations, and effects of the Red Scare in Hollywood and the House Of Un-American Activities. The nearly 3 hour long podcast spans a cast of characters including Budd Schulberg, Elia Kazan, John Garfield, Dorothy Comingore, Edward Dymytryk, Dalton Trumbo, Walt Disney, Humphrey Bogart, and of course, Howard Hughes

I really really like The Secret History of Hollywood. I've listened to the above-mentioned episode, as well as the entries on Pre-Code cinema and the Universal horror pictures. Yes, at times he can get too bogged down in a play-by-play of a film's plot, but by and large Roche is able to really demonstrate the scope of his subjects — especially on the 7-hour-plus Universal episode!!!

I hope future entries cover lesser known parts of the business, for as much as I like Hitchcock, I'm sure the vast majority of the information in that three part beast has been covered already in other avenues.

I've just gotten into this too, and just finished the astounding Universal Horror one.

The HUAC one is absolutely fantastic and just drowns you in amazing information. I really hope that the Hitchcock ones are also great.

Well, this certainly hits the spot for me, having finally caught up with Joseph Losey's 'The Boy with Green Hair' this week. Thanks, The Whelk!

I've been listening to the Hitchcock one while cooking and I may have been making dinner more complicated just so I can keep listening.
