Where there is NO wheel. There is still a way!

The Pease brothers, from Atlanta, GA, completed the New York City Marathon yesterday, against the odds. Kyle Pease has cerebral palsy, and his right rear wheelchair tire disintegrated at mile 12.

They were really flying before the wheel came off! 8 minute miles for the first half are nothing to sneeze at running all on your own never mind when pushing someone.

Here's to Amy from Maryland and Cameron from NYC who I'm sure didn't wake up planning to help carry someone through the race. Three cheers.

Something similar happened at a half-marathon my dad was in a few years ago. He was being pushed in a wheelchair as part of a special ALS awareness thing by a high school track team. About half way through, one of the front wheels busted.

He was put into a van back to where the ALS group was stationed, and some industrious guy co-opted a shopping cart wheel as a replacement wheelchair wheel. Then my dad finished the race!

It's hard to not remember this without smiling.
