I do not understand. This is how my niece greets me to show her strength and affection. is this not the way of the Tau'ri? Peculiar.

Funny, I saw this linked on Facebook earlier, and didn't click because I assumed the "stay for the end!" was the video equivalent of the recent crop of advertisements saying "number 11 will shock you!" Then I saw it almost word for word on mefi and I briefly wondered if the Apocalypse was beginning.

The original (I think) is here, where it can be viewed in much better quality. The logo in the bottom right of the stolen copy matches the logo at the start of the YouTube version, and the channel name matches.

Generally speaking these viral type videos that are popular on facebook are stolen and often presented with no (or misleading) attribution and background. Where-ever possible please try to take a few minutes to find the source and always link to them instead.

More information about this widespread problem can be found in the excellent videos here and here..

She'd make a good baby Sith warrior in episode VIII. Just saying.

It's eleven-thirty at night, she's eating ice-cream and watching television:

"I'm not going to tell her to go to bed. You do it. It was your idea to train our five-year-old daughter as a samurai."

Hey, if we're rebooting every last scrap of everything we ever loved, aren't we due for a big budget Lone Wolf and Cub film by now? Just sayin'.

a big budget Lone Wolf and Cub film by now?

I want to say 'yesssssss' but I'm not sure they could do much better. I'll admit, I've been out of Samurai movies for awhile, but is there anyone to compare to the stoney hatchet-faces of TomisaburĂ´ Wakayama or ToshirĂ´ Mifune?

I suppose this fellow.

After a couple web searches: her Facebook page. Her Twitter feed. Her recent appearance on Britain's Got Talent. Her IMDB entry.

I make a lot of comments about proper zanshin.

She had it.

And then some extra.

She is also, apparently, rather a dab hand without a blade.

Discussing this with some friends the other day. Consensus was this is a super impressive theatrical dance with a prop, especially for someone that age. The little girl has remarkable poise, grace, and showmanship. It has just about nothing to do with actual martial arts or proper use of a sword.

You're going to have to define "martial arts" and "proper use" fairly specifically for that to stick. This is what little kid weapons forms are like, at real martial arts tournaments. Or, rather, what they would be like if kids at martial arts tournaments were all athletic geniuses.

I'm guessing proper use of a sword these days includes staying well away from people with guns.
