I would totally watch the 2005 English language dub of Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind. It's uncut from the original!

Holes was supposed to be pretty good. I read the book, which was decent, but I haven't seen the movie.

I, Robot is actually underrated. I mean, it's not the greatest film of all time or anything, but it's much better than its reputation.

There's something endearing about how hard he's trying to do whatever it is he's trying to do, but there's something infuriating in that what he's trying to do seems so terribly, terribly self-satisfied and smug. It's like what everybody seems to think performance art is all about, when it's more what people get wrong about performance art.

Well, if you think about it, being a 'movie star' is not natural or reasonable or comprehensible, even. I would guess the acting part is work (hopefully) but then there's this whole second rung of work promoting and simply being a 'movie star' and that has to be wildly crazily unnatural.
And (I tell myself in somewhat lazy, knee jerk fashion) this is what all he 'performance' stuff has largely been about...

Maybe, actually, maybe he's just one of those performance artists who lucked into a wicked lucrative side gig.

Or maybe he grew into the performance thing and is finding it rewarding.

Whatever the case I think it's good he's doing all this. Or at least it's not boring. I mean he's not like 'look at my (totally shitty, ignorant) paintings.'

He's a weirdo, I'm definitely on team weirdo. As long as no one gets hurt, that is.

I never read the book. But the movie was infuriating. Will Smith's character made no sense. They could not find a consistent tone for his character. If the movie was called "Robot Punching Adventure" it would still be a pile of garbage.

That said, Will Smith wore a pair of rubber Converse sneakers and these remain my favorite sneakers. So, I will love it for that.

I like the name, too, but the surname seems like it is the word for an obscure feature of one of the gender's genitalia--one of those bits everyone knows the vernacular for but when called by its proper name you have to think for a bit and go "oh right, the salty bit" or whatever.

Or maybe an obscure cut of meat you can get at the butcher which turns out to be thinly sliced raw sphincter regarded as a great delicacy by a small cadre of gourmets but as unspeakably gross by the rest of humanity.

In conclusion, I didn't mind him in Looper, though it's very clear he doesn't grow up to be Bruce Willis.

Many actors have said they never watch their own movies. I think nobody watches themselves watching movies. I don't know what's the point behind this, but if he watches the thing after and comments (really, doesn't have to be a video of him watching himself acting, just an article or a blog post), on how the experience made him feel as an actor, as a movie goer and as a spectator.

Or, I don't know, maybe my beard is empathizing with his, and is trying to make sense of this. #fearthebeard
