No one ever went broke underestimating the stupidity of the American people. Part of me thinks suckers deserve to be taken, that this is nature's way of weeding the screwballs from the gene pool. A least the victim gets a good lesson in reality. Am I supposed to feel sorry for people who throw money at a TV fortune teller? I know this attitude is uncompassionate, but I'm not really sure that this is the government's business. Part of the way free markets work is that the customer must look after his own interests. This is a little like taking the WWF to court because pro wrestling is fake.

"They are acting like predators," Schwartz said of his psychic experience. "They prey on lonely men such as myself. I think they should be out of business." *laughs* Oh that's rich. You can just smell the lawsuit from here. I think Schwartz shouldn't own a TV. Just too much to handle. Secondly, why is the name of the business almost never mentioned and there's this floating assumption that Miss Cleo is CEO and late nite TV shill? What a fine deal this has been for her employers, she (or her character) gets all the negative press while they just smile in the background. Guess who won't be able to find another job after this compant gets unfairly pounded to the ground? Its won't be the execs. If there's anything wrong here, its that no one bothers to read the disclaimers about entertainment purposes only.

And if Miss Cleo can get sued, why not the Christian Preachers who beg for money? I bet the 700 Club would be a ripe target.

Erendadus: Pro wrestling is fake??? Great audio link. It's hilarious to see the documented cue cards for the phone "psychics," and then to hear them actually being used with a caller. It was also enlightening to hear the end-of-free-call tone right after the man gave out his personal address, but before any psychic reading was given. Shrewd, no?
