That's fascinating and adorable. Thanks!

I just had a very MeFi moment: I had to pause in listening to the History of England podcast in order to watch a bird hop about with a paper towel.

And I'm better for it.

I'd like to be that excited about anything. Thanks for posting this, slater.

I'm going to get out a piece of paper towel right now and jump on it. Holy cow he makes that look like fun.

Sorry downstairs neighbours.

Shame about the toupee, though.

This bird is happier than we will ever be, but we owe it to ourselves to try. Thank you bird for giving me something to aspire to.

Oh, god. I don't know if it is because it is nearly 6am and I have been up for what seems like days (only actually one day, but some other all-nighters in the last week, too) but this is like the bestest, most funniest thing I have ever seen. I am in hysterics. Like, I had to wipe tears of laughter out of my eyes to type this.

Party on the paper towel!

The great thing, to me, is that this bird clearly has lots of toys to play with (those neat sphere/jungle gym type things in frame towards the beginning) but is choosing to play with a simple paper towel instead.

Hm, any of those birds in my house would be dead by now.

kinnakeet, I love that you knew it was a caique. But from your username I guess I shouldn't be surprised.

Parrots are awesome.

Yes. As a person who has, and has had, many parrots and many cats, that video was really uncomfortable for me to watch. It's all fun and games until somebody loses an eye—or dies. Hard experience has taught us to be extremely careful about how our various animals are allowed to interact, and "parrots teasing cats" is not something we let happen.

Yup. My dog has dozens of toys - squeaky, chewy, rawhide, balls, you name it - but the only time she gets really excited is when a fly gets into the house. If only I'd known before I spent so much on squeaky toys.

This is exactly like how I think, "We need to buy our cats some cat furniture," and then I look around and see them snoozing happily on and in the assortment of cardboard boxes that brought various Christmas items to the house, and think maybe we can spend that cat furniture money on something else.

Happy hoppy bird! Some googling reveals this is apparently a caique thing -- they like hopping better than they like flying.

not that girl: you should just build cat furniture out of the boxes.
