Star Wars minus Star Wars is a video collage that tells the story of Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope, in twenty minutes, without using any sounds or images from Star Wars itself.

Now tell the plot of Moby Dick without using a single image or sound from Star Wars.

What was the "Use the Force, Luke" audio clip from at 14:46?

I thought it was interesting that they pretty much left out the garbage compactor scene - at the time it came out, that was one of the freshest, scariest, seat-of-your-pants scenes that really resonated (to me anyhow). I know other films have done giant snakes and walls closing in and last-minute escapes via someone outside shutting down the system, but it still feels like that's an image that Star Wars invented and rightfully owns as its own.

Bottling the aether Klein...
I'm impressed despite a handful of exceptions that reference Star Wars. Learning what Lucas cribbed for C3PO and R2D2's temporary split on Tattooine is appreciated.

It's very clever, but the premise would be more convincing if it didn't rely on so many clips from things that came after and were obviously influenced by Star Wars including a few from Spaceballs which was a Star Wars parody and the 1980's Battlestar Galactica which was pretty much made because of Star Wars.

Ooooh! Richard III!

I liked that it used clips from both before and after Star Wars. The references become an ouroboros, I felt it was done quite on purpose.

Yeah since the opening framing explicitly described Star Wars as a hinge on the history of movies, between what came before and what came after, I feel that clips from the "what came after" half that explicitly reference Star Wars are part of the message here, and really of a kind with the clips from the "what came before" half where Star Wars is the one doing the referencing.

Kyle Kallgren previously. Oh, and you have to watch the Beauty and the Beast musical episode he did with Some Jerk With A Camera.

What was the "Use the Force, Luke" audio clip from at 14:46?

He said on Twitter that it's from Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Odd that there's no trash compactor scene, considering how much of an adventure film staple "the walls are closing in" is.

Absolutely excellent though.

The crying out were all the Trek purists who were forced to see Nimoy having to recite the place holder for Obi-Wan. Muhahaha that was gleefully evil!

I get the point, but I'm not sure it's an important point. Lots of movies reuse scenes, ideas, and tropes. Are there really that many movies that couldn't be remade out of pieces of older movies in this way?

Not that many. This was '77, not a whole lot of cribbable sci-fi were around when he made it. He clearly had specific inspirations, but as evidenced by all the clips from movies that came out after it, he "pioneered" a lot of the tropes.

Kyle's "Brows Held High" series is a personal favorite. I recommend checking out his "Summer of Shakespeare" and "Shakespeare Month" runs from the last two years.

And the above mentioned Beauty & the Beast musical review is amazing.
