The Magic Wand Throughout Art History

Over the last year or so, a tumblr improving famous paintings by adding more overt elements indicating women's pleasure has emerged, offering us The Magic Wand Throughout Art History. Interviews with the artist have offered slightly varying mission statements, with Bustle and Mic noting his intentions to celebrate and destigmatize female masturbation by marrying the image of the iconic Hitachi Magic Wand vibrator with recognizable works of art, and Unicorn Booty notes that he simply wants to put two great things together and have fun.

Wow. Half of them are just a vibrator pasted on a famous painting, but the other half of them are GREAT.

Oh, so THAT'S what a magic wand looks like. I'm disillusioned; I thought it would be more glamorous and spectacular.

I... I came in thinking this would be about a different kind of wand...

I agree. Lots are just sort of so-so, but the others are really good.

Hilarious on so many levels. Amazing how one prop can totally change one's perception of all those smiles.

"Half of them are boring and lazy and half of them are GREAT" is a pretty good description of most things on tumblr in general, actually. Especially things that are supposed to make some kind of greater statement.

"Yes, yes. I thought I'd be seeing you soon. Harry Potter." It wasn't a question. "You have your mother's eyes. It seems only yesterday she was in here herself, buying her first wand. It seems only yesterday she was in here herself, buying her first wand. Ten and three-quarter inches long, swishy, made of willow. Nice wand for charm work."

"Your father, on the other hand, favored a mahogany wand. Eleven inches. "

The thing that struck me most was how much the magic wand looks like a microphone. Apparently there were a lot of artists models in the past that were frustrated rock stars, but didn't realize it because rock and roll didn't exist yet.

Someone needs to do something like this to pictures of politicians.

They didn't know to breathe from the diaphragm.

I always wondered about how incomplete the Hogwarts curriculum was, and when/how the students learned things like math and grammar. I guess we can add sex ed to that list.

I have to agree with Existential Dread. The Frazetta was genius. LOL'd with delight.

I like these significantly because (at least for me) they transform the women in many of the paintings from objects to be gazed on to having more subjectivity, depictions of women who have agency to seek pleasure rather than women who exist for the viewer's pleasure.
