There was MUCH SQUEEING over on the Monterey Bay Aquarium's Instagram account the last couple of days:

The squee heard around the world! A wild baby sea otter was JUST born this morning in our Great Tide Pool!

OOOMG it is sooooooooo cute. That's a Christmas gift. All the hugs and kisses that the mom is giving to the baby sea otter ;_; Also how is a baby sea otter that big at birth??

we must remember that the ratio of fluff is high for the smallest squee - at that size it's 95% fluff and 5% otter

This is exactly how my dog Shakedown sleeps on top of me. Exactly. She is also a third my size with very little foof.

When I visited the Monterey Bay Aquarium with my then-wife, we acquired a plush otter that she got custody of when we broke up. So this year, I decided to see if I could get myself a replacement otter as a self-Xmas present. Found a 'good condition' used one on Ebay and it arrived at my home the same day this pup was born. My chest is nothing near otter-level hairy, but that's where my otter is spending much of its time for the holidays.
