One day I'm getting a gummi Venus De Milo on my butt.

Reminds me of one of my favorite possessions, a book of all the books ever featured on the Simpsons. It's a (yellow) thing of beauty.

Whoever eventually invents the first fast, effective, affordable tattoo removal system is going to make an ass-ton of money.

Although that Escher-esque Lisa one is pretty neat.

My next tattoo is more than likely going to be the Space Coyote from "The Mysterious Voyage of Our Homer".

I can't believe that Lenny-as-Lemmy one has even had time to heal yet, but I love it.

I hope the future will bring semipermanent tattoos - I love the look of sleeves on other people, but I don't know if I will on me five years later. Sometimes I think of all the 'profound' things I would have picked for a Tattoo ten years ago and cringe a little.

I kind of want a Mr Sparkle, though.

Yeah a lot of the trippy stuff from that one would be really good too. I was just pondering some variation on this today. I am in major tattoo mode after a few years off so I may make some questionable decisions though.

Actually, no, this is a thing of beauty

This Lenny/Carl is my favorite Simpsons tattoo I've ever seen.

Now, in color!

This is the best. I love almost all of these.

I love this, tattoos, The Simpsons, and the Wu, but is there a connection between the last two other than their golden eras overlapping? There were a lot more Simpsons Wu-bats in there than I was expecting.

I'm assuming this was meant to go here.

I just want Gil, taking up my whole back.

Some are really good, but the not-faithful to original image sort of reinterpreted ones with like, a semi-realistic rose are, like, why?

I can't believe how many throwaway gags there are here, and that there are not one, but TWO of Jasper in the little kid Sunday best outfit with the lollipop.
posted by majuju at 1:18 PM on January 15, 2016 [3 favorites]

These are mostly terrific. Great as that episode was, though, I can't imagine having a giant "DIE BART, DIE" on my back forever. God forbid you should take up with someone named Bartholomew. Awkward.

Is there a term for kind-of admiring someone while admitting you'd never, ever do what they did? Because that's how I feel about the person with a tattoo of Joey Jo-Jo Junior Shabadoo.

My heart is pleased to see the Flying Hellfish being represented.

These are great. There really are some fairly obscure ones there. I say "Put it in H!" and "There's your answer fishbulb" often enough that I might save time by just getting tattoos of them. But if I was going to get one it'd most likely be Stonecutter related.

An amusing number of specific, obscure minor Simpsons gags. Which seem to outnumber not only the specific major gags, but the declasse Calvin-peeing type character plagiarisms, which are refreshingly small in number (The Wu-Tang one being the most common. Did not know about that as a thing.)

Someone should count up the references by season. They seem to follow the general consensus, not a lot of new stuff. (Of course, I'm biased because I am less able to identify refs from newer episodes.)

I think it might help to not overthink it so much. I have no tattoos, because I've always had the same thoughts as you. Meanwhile, my earrings have remained exactly the same gauge now at 34 that they were at 21, and I still have the septum piercing I got at 22.

Which really says to me that I probably should just take the plunge and get a tattoo already.

That’s part of the package. Not exactly a bug, kind of a feature. It’s committing to something, realizing you’re not immortal so it’s not really forever, you will change and you may or may not think it’s stupid later and you have no way of knowing, and you’re going to be OK with that and deal with it then. But you also may not want to get 666 tattooed across your forehead.

What explosion said.

The inkwork is pretty amazing, but there's just no way on God's Green Earth that I could get something pop culture oriented tattooed on myself. My fandom contains multitudes, and passes like a leaf on a stream, so I'd choose it, get it, and then immediately regret it.

Good job, MeFi, at finding a post about excellent tattoos that does not, somehow, make me want to get another one.

Welcome to the world of tomorrow! (actually they've been around for a few years)

These inks have the pigments in microcapsules. One simple laser treatment can destroy the capsule lining, releasing the ink to be absorbed into your body.

You may have trouble finding a tattoo artist who will use them, though.

I'm thoroughly impressed with some of these and I'm totally surprised at the relative lack of Kang and Kodos. I can't say that I'd get a Simpsons tattoo, but the one of Joey Ramone made me pause for a sec.

Awkward, or maybe luck would have it that the particular Bartholomew you stumbled upon would love you forever for it.

I'm not a tattoo fan as a general matter, but man, the specificity and dedication involved in some of these really blows me away. I'm burning to know more about this one. Three friends who all got the same tattoo? Or did a casting call go out?

That episode was a hallmark in pre-South Park, pre-Portlandia animated social satire mocking liberals. I like the Gummi Venus de Milo simply as a fan of candy, but I can see where it could be a symbol of more in certain circles based on the plot of the episode.
