Two articles by Carla Ruas a Freelance writer and photographer based in Brazil.
Running the joint: - This is the story of Presídio Central, a correctional facility in Brazil that has become a headquarters for the organized crime. And it all began when a cab crashed into the lobby of the fanciest hotel in town.

Bonus
Stuck in Blood Red Soil: -
Indigenous people and ranchers are dying in southwestern Brazil in a century-old land war sparked by bad political decisions and a failed legislation.

I love the presentation of the military police's mindset here: "We'll hand over control of that floor of the prison to this bloke. He seems well connected but not dangerous."

Surely they were a little more cynical or pressured than literally just that naive. And if they were just being cynical, they must have known how many people they'd condemn to being murdered just by their actions.

That was a very illuminating read. Thanks.
