“You don’t know what you just saw, but when you see it in slow motion you’ll know what you just saw.” The NBA released a mix-tape of last weekend’s All-Star Weekend Slam Dunk Contest. The highlight of the weekend was Zach LaVine and Aaron Gordon's Slam Dunk Duel but even the All-Star's kids got in on the action. For the greatest of all time, there's the Ultimate Slam Dunk Contest Mixtape. You can also view it in 360 FreeD Angles. posted by Room 641-A (24 comments total) 14 users marked this as a favorite

Gordon's under-the-butt-and-over-the-mascot dunk was the sickest of all time, I don't care if LaVine won.

Nah, the sickest dunk of all time is Vince Carter over a 7'2" Fred Weis in the Olympics.

le dunk de la mort

Vince Carter is the best dunker of all time.

(can we please just post awesome dunks? because that thread would be awesome. god I love the nba)

That dunk showdown was surreal. So many where the momentum is working against them but they're making it work as if their hands have magnets in them.

Gordon was robbed. Still, it was a great contest this year.

If the best dunks don't include Jordan Kilganon's no-look, behind the back dunk... in jeans, then it's categorically not the best dunks.

I have so much love for the Magic mascot and his(?) assists.

I also find it oddly soothing to watch the mascot twirl slowly on the hoverboard. I need a gif of just that.

Here's a 5'5"(!) high schooler dunking in a game.

And Gordon was robbed.

Yup, Gordon was robbed.

Wade isn't known as a dunker, but here's a good old-man-dunk.

I think the most underrated dunk in all of the history of the NBA Dunk Comp is the Aaron Gordon double pump (his last dunk.) I've never seen a double pump where the ball went so far in either direction

Anything where the dunker is at eye level with the rim works for me.

Was at the MJ Dominique Dunk Contest in 1988 in Chicago. The most amazing athletic feats I believe I will ever see in person. Truly incredible. Electrifying.

I thought both Gordon and LaVine were terrific. To me, it is like a boxing champion, you have to beat them convincingly to take the crown. LaVine did not lose, he just did not win.

Why does that beardy Aryan-brotherhood looking guy get up after the dunk and hold people back? Was it to avoid a penalty for teammates going onto the court?

Yes, ever since the Malice at the Palace (previously) there have been penalties for players leaving the bench.

At this point it's usually more of a thing for show as opposed to serious.

Jordan Kilganon is a beast, and his dunk during all-star weekend was awesome. But this might be the best one he's ever pulled off.

I feel like some of those gentlemen might have been traveling.

Highlight truthers are everywhere these days.

The seated dunk was amazing, as were many of Gordon's dunks. They were fun, they were creative. Levine, though, he just looked so at ease, so relaxed with his dunks. Effortless. It's one of the reasons I love basketball above other sports. It's the one sport where everyone once in a while, someone does something that makes you forget humans can't fly. Levine's dunks we (uh, sorry) like Legolas walking on the snow while the rest of the fellowship struggled through it. His first dunk, from behind the backboard, it was like he was relaxed, like he was reclining in mid air.

And the mix tape of all of the "perfect" dunks, that's gotta be the best hourlong commute fodder I've ever seen. I just started watching, not thinking about how long it would be, and finally checked how much time was left around maybe Kobe Bryant. I wasn't finished when I got to my station, so got off the train and stood on the platform for the last three minutes.

Yes, he doesn't want them to get called for a technical foul for having too many players on the court.

My favorite dunk. You've heard those stories about adrenaline giving people superpowers, so they can lift cars and whatnot?
