AD&DRP: Actually, this is your grandmother's AD&D.

I was playing AD&D in high school.

Now I'm old enough to have coworkers young enough to be my kids. They have kids of their own.

The whole "Just imagine the olds playing fantasy games" is realer than you want it to be. Possibly.

Hence my "actually, the world needs this" tag!

I don't like those Magic: The Gathering players. You never know who their parents are, or how they were raised.

I mean, I'm not saying they're all bad- I just wouldn't want my daughter dating one.

And even then, I probably wouldn't stop her...I'd just wonder why she couldn't meet a nice Pathfinder player. Always so polite, those Pathfinder players. Such sensible young people.

Of course, I wouldn't want her dating a Vampire: The Masquerade player, either. But that's just because I don't want her making the same mistakes I did growing up.

My group is currently recruiting because an opening was created by someone dying of old age.

Luckily another member is a game store employee so we've got an inside track there.

Wait - elderly people are expected to subscribe to a service whose market model is having a Game Master at a call center provide exposition and encounter rolls?

How is 'Tsojcanth' pronounced?

t-sodge-canth.

I've been playing with one of my regular D&D* crew for 30 years, and the rest for not far off that. I fully intend to keep playing until I die.

*actually rolemaster, cyberpunk, traveller, mage, 13th age, 3e, 4e, eclipse phase, various indie oneshots

Quite a wide mix of editions in the hardcovers on that table.

As I have spake of before on the blue, when I was maybe 15 I was playing in an AD&D game with a bunch of other high-schoolers and this dude named Jim who was in his forties. His very presence -- indeed, existence -- was baffling and exotic. Now almost no one in my game circles is south of forty and poor old Jim, if he is still among the living, must be closing in on his seventy-fifth or so.

I've been playing for not-quite-forty years now, and am currently running two campaigns. Yeah, I can imagine continuing to play on into the golden years.

There have been various studies talking about how single older men lose their social networks and just pull in, which fits what I'm likely to do extremely well, so my wife has said that if she predeceases me, she wants me to find some way to stay connected. We both agree that the likeliest way I could do that is finding/making an Old Geek's Home with other gamers.
