The Setup Wizard, a blog about being the Hogwarts IT Guy. Relatively recent, and yet fairly brilliant blog about what it's like to be the muggle IT guy for a bunch of wizards and witches. Nice shoutout to Bowie in there too.

I always thought they should have a muggle professor to teach muggle studies, and that i should be that muggle professor

Brilliant.
I'm not all that big on Potter, but this blog is pure gold.

It's like The IT Crowd, plus magic! This is brilliant.

Even speaking as a non-Potter person, this is great work.

The Potter fandom doesn't really tickle my fancy either, but this is great. Thanks for sharing it!

Hee, this one amused me:

How are they deciding where to draw the line on which animals the muggles can know about and which are to be kept secret? Who decided that jackalopes are off limits but platypuses are a-ok?

Okay, so I'm obtuse. Where's the Bowie reference?

I stumbled upon this earlier today via Twitter (via @nanowrimo) and I was positively charmed. This kind of thing is absolutely my preferred kind of fanfiction.

This is charming except as we all know, No-Maj is a terrible word that actual people do not use. You're in Hogwarts! Call them muggles.

Except that the character is explicitly stated to be an American witch, so it's not surprising that she uses American slang.

Except that jeather is right and no-maj is stupid, canon be damned. How do you even make it plural? Ugh.

I continue to assume that "no-maj" is a term some snooty Frances Trollope-type wrote was the slang in a magical travel guide to the Americas because some Americans were annoyed with her and made up nonsense 'slang" to make her look dumb.

And then the Americans actually adopted to stick it to the idiots who insist on swish and flicking with their pinky fingers out for no good reason.

Clearly "no-maj" originates from British magical 4chan:
> my face when the English call no-maj "muggles"
> my face when the English call duelsticks "wands"
> my face when the English call freedom horses "hippogriffs"

If no-maj were the actual American term, sure, she would use it. But it is not. JKR is many wonderful things, but she isn't American and can't do American slang, even magical.
