Is it too much to hope for that this becomes a regular series?

So, weird angle to take on this but does anybody have any thoughts on branded content? It seems like a growing thing, and also a financially viable path forward for creative people (actors/comedians, writers/directors, etc.) in a really tough industry, but it feels gross to be willfully watching a commercial. Is it better when lines are drawn between commercials and entertainment? Or is it worth the trade-off to just get entertainment with an agenda? Does it actually bother you when the Transformer takes a sip from an ice cold Pepsi, with the can tilted just so the logo is perfectly legible?

I know a fair amount of people in "the industry" (read: small to medium-time video production) and it seems like this is more and more of the work out there... stuff on the border between marketing and 'art/entertainment'. What do we think?

They're called 'soap operas' for a reason.

Everything old is new again.

There may be some ad/content synergy going on here, but I think it's more intentionally a reference to the Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee intro where Jerry *gushes* about the car he's driving that episode.

Last week the host and a male commedian used remote mics to feed dialog to two performers doing a porn shoot.

I misread this on my phone last night as 'Canadians Sitting on Vibrators Getting Coffee'. I thought it was going to be some kind of anti-Trump demo of Canadian sang-froid and liberalism. Alas, in the cold light of morning on my big screen I am disappointed!

I am disappointed!

Well, yeah. Trump's still winning.
The only person not disappointed, is a certain sub.

I kind of prefer branded content in shows to be over the top - I think it was Bones that had several episodes where the actors were just -gushing- about the new Scion XT or whatever car. These are characters who have access to all sorts of fantastic holographic computers they use to solve crimes and they were all going crazy about a rear-view camera in a car.

"Well Bones we've solved the crime of the Nerd in the Barrel using only dental records and an image of the killer's face we found in a reflection of the victim's glasses on a grainy CCTV feed BUT HOLY SHIT HEATED SEATS OH MY GOD"

"Agent Booth you know I don't believe in God but I do agree with you w/r/t heated seats this is truly a miracle of science also I can plug my phone in to this port to charge????"

"We are the best crime solving team, Bones, thanks to the Scion XT"

We're talking about the little "this is the vibe we're using" bit beforehand, right?

While it may very well have been a piece of product placement, I took it more as saying "We're not fucking around here", as the Magic Wand is fairly well-recognized as being the ne plus ultra, go-to machine when you're serious about getting the job done.

I mean, I don't think anyone doubts their responses are genuine, given that it's a Magic Wand. Had it been some lesser bullet, though...
