Tennis crowds in Indian Wells are the worst. In my single claim to fame and I was there moment, I was at the tournement. Jesus Christ old rich white people, shut the fuck up. It was like a precusor to a Drumpf rally. The only justice is most of them are dead now, hopefully discovering God is a large black man with a questionable taste in Kangol caps.

The best part however is how most tennis fans show up to the match wearing their court togs, possibly so if Serena pulls up lame they can get tagged in without missing a beat. Hey guess what, she pulled up lame and you didnt get called off the bench. Back into street clothes, grandma.

KT: I am assuming you haven't been to the US Open or the French then. My experience at Indian Wells has been that those crowds are the best, easily.

They can't be the best crowds if they booed the greatest woman player in tennis because of the color of her skin.

Thanks so much for posting this, nadawi! I love Venus Williams. When she was playing her first pro tournaments I was playing my first season of high school varsity tennis - seeded 5, barely made the team. She quickly became my favorite tennis player. My high school was a small public school in a predominantly black neighborhood in Florida, and our team was very diverse. This set us way apart from the other schools we played. At the time, schools were placed in divisions based on their size, and public and private schools were in the same organization. And in Florida, this meant we were playing against a lot of expensive private schools (because they tended to be smaller) where tennis is a Very Important Sport. For example, my team had only ever played on crappy public hard courts. And then we would go to an away match at a fancy high school that had real groomed clay courts - talk about an unfair advantage!

Anyway, I like how grown-up Venus has handled her unfortunate health issues, her support of Serena and her own career; she's still my favorite player. I remember watching that Serena-Kim Clijsters match, and the crowd was pretty insane. But, Richard Williams hasn't always been a help to his daughters, either. This documentary about the Williams sisters is pretty good and talks a little about Indian Wells and hints at some issues with their father.
