I waited up last night for this thing to get released, that's how much I love these videos.

I need one of those hats, stat.

Also, as someone who spent 3 years in Austin, MN, I still get giddily pleased when SPAM gets showcased.

Thats great on its own, but this is all I could think of.

I knew hockey hair was a thing, but a bunch of those dudes looked like they were going for more of a Kenny Powers/Matt Stone as the porn grip in Orgasmo kind of deal. Some of those, I didn't know you were allowed to wear those hairstyles and not wear Styx t-shirt at the same time. ::confused::

Hockey hair is an airborne virus.
Or so I'm told.

I grew up in Wisconsin across the river from Stillwater. So homesick right now.

$2 for all you can drink milk at the state fair?? When I was a kid it was a quarter.

Way to go, hockey kids of MN. If I were not living here right now I would be super homesick.

This was wonderful. Thank you for the post!

Oh my stars and garters, I love this. However, hockey hair isn't a new thing at all. We had hockey hair and seedy porn-star mustaches in the '80s.

He's right about one thing though, there's nothing in America quite like the Minnesota state high school hockey tournament. We used to bus it down to the Civic Center in St. Paul back in the day and watch like twelve hours of hockey and bus back home.

It didn't hurt that I recognized every single school mentioned. 'kato indeed.

OMG this is the most batshit bananapants thing I've ever seen and I TOTALLY LOVE IT. For anyone who hasn't been here, this is EXACTLY what Minnesota is like. Just last night I ate my dinner on my Purple Rain TV dinner tray!

It's state tourney time again, isn't it? *sigh* Even 1300 miles away I can sense it.

Also, here is a nice piece on Minnesota hockey fixture Louie Nanne: -Minn post link

"What are you guys doing?"

"Puttin' on the foil!"

"Yeah, every game!"

"You want some?"

This is a pro click. Great article.

Lou Nanne is in that small 'Minnesota Sports Demigod' Venn diagram. He seems more Minnesotan than I am, and I was born here. Bud Grant is in that category as well.

I'm not even from Minnesota and this makes me homesick. I love this, thank you for posting.

That was far better than I expected. The next season of Fargo needs more hockey hair.

This may turn into an AskMe question later, but maybe someone here knows: what is the song at the end of the 2012 video? I'm having a hard time hearing the lyrics as anything other than "I love my hair".

I yelled at my computer in a very un-Minnesotan way when I saw that!

Also, disappointed in my school's entry. Class of 1997 did it way better.

Is he calling Edina the "small town on the west side"? That's hilarious.

I'm a foreigner who's recently been spending a lot of time in Minnesota and I'm an ADDICT.

(Not unrelated: Three aisles of cheese in your supermarkets? Fuck yeah.)

His "really Minnesotan" meal of spam, lutefisk, and lefse atop a copy of Purple Rain is perfect. Alternative: corn dogs, bundt cake, and jucy lucy atop a copy of Husker Du's Zen Arcade.

According to Bob Collins, this is the guy behind it, and it's no secret.

Or booya, a porchetta sandwich, and some deep-fried cheese curds on the album sleeve for The Replacements' "Sorry Ma, Forgot to Take out the Trash."

Or maybe a fried walleye sandwich, Tom Thumb Donuts, and a Salted Nut Roll on top of the jewel case for the "Prairie Home Companion Movie Soundtrack" (n.b.: only played once).

How about krumkake, pho from Dinkytown, and a dish of Izzy's ice cream, on top of a "Journey's Greatest Hits" CD taken from a car parked down by the river for a keg party on a Wednesday when school starts late?

(This is fun!)

Journey? Is that a former City Pages editor Steve Perry reference?

My younger son wants one of the "Land of 10,000 locks" hat, and so does my uncle from Hibbing. For me, I would prefer to see more of them for direct sale than just a few auctioned for charity on EBay, but maybe that's because I hate EBay so much.

I love that an Edina/WBL guy who works at Fallon has the deft touch to leverage this thing's popularity into raising funds for such a cool cause. :7)

Hot dish (with Old Ditch potato chips on top), shore lunch, and a Grain Belt Premium, sitting next to a CD single of the Gear Daddies' "I Want to Drive the Zamboni."

Cake Eater is my favorite nickname for folks from Edina (Eidinans? Edinaites?)

Bud Grant is in that category as well.

When he walked out onto that field in short sleeves when it was six below, I though to myself "now that's a man."
